Chiang Mai Trekking Tours

Chiang Mai trekking

If there’s one thing adventurer’s love about Chiang Mai, it’s that this place is a great starting point for many types of outdoor activities. Usually, Chiang Mai treks consist of a few days’ worth of outdoor fun – though you can take shorter or longer treks depending on how much vacation time you want to use to explore. And Chiang Mai is a great place to trek.

The Climate

Chiang Mai, located in the northernmost part of Thailand, is an awesome place to start your trek because the weather is usually warm. Even during the winter months of December and January, the temperature is about 20-22 Celsius. Any time of the year is great for trekking, as long as you are well prepared and ready to face the elements. The rainy season is wet and warm, though the days have less sun light hours than the colder months. During the dry season, temperatures at night can drop – so bringing extra gear for colder conditions is important.

The Scenery

Chiang Mai is a great entryway to the nature of Northern Thailand. Beautiful forests, rivers, mountains, waterfalls, national parks, hot springs, and more all are within easy reach of this Thai city. A short or long trek is guaranteed to be beautiful. The forest is a moist wonderland, full of teak and greenery. Rivers give wonderful opportunities to cruise or raft. Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, is located within the region and is surrounded by a park with bountiful trekking opportunity. And of course, the animals of Chiang Mai are not to be missed! Try to cross paths with elephants during your trip.

Not only is the natural beauty of Chiang Mai great for trekking, but also cultural landmarks are everywhere. There are many temples to visit, and some you can trek to. Also available to visit are the hill tribes, native people who have been living in the area for centuries after emigrating from many parts of the continent – six different tribes with distinct languages, culture, and heritage. No trek is complete without a visit to a village.
