We’ll pick you up bright and early from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and head to the famous Doi Inthanon National Park. The first location we visit will be Wachirathan Waterfall, a stunning waterfall located within the park. It is 750 meters worth of rushing water, so expect some cool splashes to refresh you after our scenic drive.

Next we will visit the mountain for which the park is named, Doi Inthanon. It is the tallest mountain in Thailand, reaching 2,565 meters (that’s over 8400 feet!) above sea level. While we are here we will be visit the stupa of King Inthawichayanont, a Thai ruler during the last part of the 19 century who cherished cold weather and spent much of his time in this high elevation. Take in the beauty of the tranquil, green mountain forest.

Next we will begin the Angka, an easy nature trail hike. This is a great place to do a little bird watching for our avian enthusiasts. We will then progress to the twin pagodas, an homage to the king and queen of Thailand. From this location, you will have an absolutely amazing view of the mountain and the three districts below Jomthong, Sanpathong, and Mae Jam. It’s a stunning view and the weather is cool and relaxing, a perfect setting for snapping some photos.

After our pagoda visit, we will drop into a Hmong Hilltribe market. These people have a long history in Thailand, stretching back from their time in China and their work in cultivating opium fields. As part of the Thai landscape, the hill tribes was asked by the king to grow winter crops instead of opium, and now they sell their products in the market. We will break for lunch here.

After refueling during lunch, we will begin an easy downhill trek to visit the Waterfall.  The walk takes about two to three hours and is a beautiful trek through the evergreen forest. During our walk, we will see local plants and herbs, along with rice fields, and an Arabica coffee farm owned by the Pa Ka Yor Hill Tribe. This project is one of the many royal projects designed to create a better, more sustainable life for hill tribes and people of Thailand.  When we get to the village, we can taste the coffee and take in the sights, smells, and sounds of the local life before heading back to the city of Chiang Mai.

Please take note that the rice field is not always green, some time of the year it can be completely dry for a beautiful golden.
