Day 01 Lisu Lodge (Lunch, Dinner)

Arrive in the morning and be greeted by your hosts, who will share in a refreshing welcome drink with you. A Lisu guide will introduce you to the lodge and give you some options for your later afternoon activities.

We’ll start with an introductory walk around the village, stopping first at Ton Lung temple, the local temple for your hosts. In the temple’s garden, you will be able to see the many herbs that are used in medicine. Next we will visit with the town’s shaman, where we will enjoy a cup of tea and discuss local spiritual beliefs. This is a great time to learn about the culture.

We will break for a yummy lunch before our next stop, the hill tribe cultural center. At the cultural center, you will get a feel for daily life of the Lisu and Akha hill tribes

That afternoon, you can choose from several options to fill your time:

  • Take a guided bicycle tour of the tranquil Lisu Lodge area
  • Take a steam bath to relax
  • Receive a relaxing and rejuvenating massage
  • Take an oxcart ride around the farms and orchards, to the nearby village of Baan Pang Mai Daeng

Note: You can choose a second one hour activity for a small fee, and feel free to take a bicycle out for a non-guided tour using our road map.
After your activities, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing before a tasty dinner accompanied by a traditional Lisu dance.

Day 02 Lisu Lodge – Khum Lanna (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

We’ll have a tasty breakfast at the lodge and then embark on an easy, 8-mile/13 km bike tour. We break for lunch by the river, followed by an exciting, 45-minute whitewater rafting experience down the Mae Tang River. In the winter, we will be using inflatable whitewater rafts. When the weather warms up starting in April, we will be using bamboo rafts for our river experience.

We will make the hour car ride to the Khum Lanna village, and then check in for our stay at the Khum Lanna camp.

After check in, we will receive local farmers’ shirts to fit in with our surrounding. We’ll be able to take a short rest before our next activity: a Thai cooking class. Our hands on class with an experience chef will teach you how to make four very popular Thai dishes. For dinner, we will enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Day 03 Khum Lanna (Breakfast, Lunch)

Wake up early with coffee and tea brought to your room before the sun even rises. We start our day early with a cycling trip to a nearby market, where we will taste local coffee, and can buy local treats and flowers that we will be able to use as offerings to the monks.

We’ll take a little walk to a hardware store specializing in farming supplies, where the owner will teach you about rice species and the benefits of rice.

Next we will drop in at a Buddhist temple and view religious art of the Buddha resting beneath a sacred tree (we’ll also be able to gift the monks some of the things we bought earlier!). We will continue on our bikes down a lovely path in order to get our traditional Lanna breakfast back at the village – yes, it pays to wake up early! Afterwards, we will learn how to cook the popular Thai dish of sticky rice.

We will be able to explore the surrounding, including a free visit to the local museum which exhibits old farming tools and rice related equipment. You’ll also be able to wander through the organic garden which is home to herbs, veggies, and fruit – take a taste! Here you can collect the perfect ingredients for our cooking class which will occur later that day.

Enjoy a delicious, Lanna barbeque lunch where you will get to finally eat that tasty sticky rice you prepared earlier in the day, alongside some country style favorites.

That afternoon, you can choose from several options to fill your time:

  • Take a guided bicycle tour of the tranquil Khum Lanna countryside
  • Take a fruit and vegetable carving class to make some edible art
  • Take an herbal bath to relax – we use refreshing, local herbs
  • Receive a therapeutic, hot press massage also featuring local herbs like ginger and lemongrass

Note: You can choose a second one hour activity for a small fee, and feel free to take a bicycle out for a non-guided tour using our road map.

After your activities, we will participate in a second cooking class! Here we will learn how to prepare three more tasty Thai meals. At the end of the class, you’ll even get to take a home a recipe book which has several variations of the meals you cooked in class and a guide to the benefits of Thai herbs.

After the class, we once again enjoy the fruits of your labor with a fun and delicious dinner!
