Overview
Spend an unforgettable 2 days one night at Khum Lanna Thai Country Living, Thailand
What we’ll do
Morning Arrival
Day 1: Khum Lanna
Arrive in the morning and be greeted by local Lanna guides, who will share some locally harvested tea or fruit juice with you, and will provide you with a work shirt that local farmers wear to stay comfortable. The Khum Lanna’s intent is to share the wonder of Thai rice with visitors – their motto is “Rice For Life” and you’ll get to know exactly why. Thailand is known for being a large rice producer; indeed, the crop is one of Thailand’s popular exports.
During this two day, one night outing, you’ll learn all about rice’s long history, the different types of rice grown in Thailand, and how rice is harvested from the fields. We’ll also get have some fun in the kitchen and make some tasty, steamed sticky rice, a go-to dish in Thailand.
We will also be privileged enough to see the organic vegetable and herb garden, where the chef will share tips on collecting the perfect ingredients for our cooking class which will occur later that day.
Enjoy a delicious, Lanna barbeque lunch where you will get to finally eat that tasty sticky rice you prepared earlier in the day, alongside some country style favorites. Here we will learn some easy Thai words that will be important for your trip to the market tomorrow.
That afternoon, you can choose from several options to fill your time:
- Take a bicycle tour of the tranquil Khum Lanna countryside
- Take a fruit and vegetable carving class to make some edible art
- Take an herbal bath to relax – we use refreshing, local herbs
- Receive a therapeutic, hot press massage also featuring local herbs
Please Note: You can choose a second one hour activity for a small fee, and feel free to take a bicycle out for a non-guided tour using our road map.
After the free time, you will participate in a wonderful Thai cooking class. Guided by experienced Thai chefs, you will learn the secrets to cooking delicious Thai food. You’ll even get to take a home a recipe book which has several variations of the meals you cooked in class and a guide to the benefits of Thai herbs. Afterward, you’ll be treated to your handiwork with a four course dinner featuring the meals you made.
After dinner, we will head to the garden for a campfire where you’ll be able to enjoy the bountiful starry night.
Day 2: Village Visit
Wake up early with some coffee or tea brought to your room. Kick off your day with a beautiful trip on bicycle down a rural road leading to the market, where you – with a little help from your guide of course – can purchase local food and garlands to gift the monks when we arrive at our temple stop. We’ll take a little walk to a hardware store specializing in farming supplies, where the owner will teach you about rice species and the benefits of rice.
Next we will drop in at a Buddhist temple and view religious art of the Buddha resting beneath a sacred tree (we’ll also be able to gift the monks some of the things we bought earlier!).
We will continue on our bikes down a lovely path in order to get our traditional Lanna breakfast – yes, it pays to wake up early! Afterwards, we’ll say our goodbyes.
