About the Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Tour

Start your day with an early morning pickup and embark on a scenic drive through the breathtaking hills of northern Thailand that will take you to the charming city of Chiang Rai. Along the way, indulge in coffee and snacks at a charming hot spring. Then prepare yourself for the awe-inspiring beauty of one of Thailand’s most famous and fascinating architectural wonders – the famous White Temple.

The tour continues towards the Golden Triangle of Chiang Rai, a famous region characterized by the confluence of the Mekong and Krok rivers, forming a tri-point where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. This historically significant area was once notorious for its involvement in the opium trade, which adds another layer to its fascinating past.

Next, visit Wat Chedi Luang, a remarkable temple built in the traditional style of Chiang Saen. Located in the historic old town of Chiang Saen, this temple showcases the rich cultural heritage of the region. As one of the oldest cities in the region, Chiang Saen offers a glimpse into ancient times and allows you to explore the historical significance of this fascinating destination.

After lunch, visit the House of Opium tells the story of how hill tribes from southern China introduced opium to the Golden Triangle through trade and consumption. Exhibits include tools, scales and maps of the route drug traffickers took from southern China to Thailand. Models of hill tribe people smoking opium in thatched buildings are on display.

The tour ended with a boat ride on the Mekong River to the point where the 3 countries and their 2 rivers meet. The Mekong River is the mother river of Southeast Asia.
